Uzbekistan tends to slow down price growth for non-food products

In the first quarter of 2010, prices for non-food products in Uzbekistan increased by 0.8 percent, while prices for services increased by 1.2 percent, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

The analysis of price changes over January-March 2018 and 2019 showed a tendency for a slowdown in the growth rate of prices for non-food products. So, if in the first three months of 2018, the increase in prices for non-food products reached 4.8 percent, in the same period of 2019 this figure was 2.8 percent.

In comparison with March 2018, the rise in prices for non-food products in March 2019 was lower (0.8 percent versus 1.1 percent in 2018).

Out of the non-food product groups with the largest share, the main price increase in March of the current year was registered for personal hygiene products (2.1 percent), clothes (1.7 percent) and footwear (1.3 percent).

This is while fuel prices decreased by 0.3 percent, including propane - by 1.5 percent, methane - by 0.3 percent.

Regarding other groups of non-food products with a smaller share in March 2019, there was an increase in prices for detergents and cleaning products (2.4 percent), agricultural implements (1.7 percent), computers and peripheral equipment (1.4 percent), haberdashery and watches (0.9 percent) and furniture (0.6 percent).

In general, in January-March 2019, there was an increase in prices for books, newspapers and magazines (17.0 percent), means of communication (10.1 percent), washing and cleaning products (8.9 percent), food products (6.6 percent), household items and electrical appliances ( 6.4 percent), clothing (3.6 percent), household textiles (3.4 percent), kitchen utensils and appliances (3.3 percent), furniture (2.9 percent).

Moreover, tariffs for services for the population in March 2019 increased by 1.2 percent.

Compared to December 2018, tariffs for paid services to the population in March 2019 increased on average by 2.5 percent.

In general, in the first quarter of 2018 and 2019, tariffs for services increased almost equally (2.5 percent in 2019 and 2.6 percent in 2018).

Over the past three months from the beginning of the year, domestic services rose most significantly in February (3.5 percent), passenger transport — in January (0.9 percent), communications, cultural and educational institutions — in March (3.9 percent, 3.2 percent and 6.2 percent respectively), recreation services - in January (4.2 percent), medical services - in February (1.1 percent).

Housing and communal services for this period have not undergone significant changes. Leading positions in price growth in March of the current year are occupied by education services (6.2 percent), communications (3.9 percent) and cultural institutions (3.2 percent).

The subscription fee for city telephone communication increased from 3,000 to 5,800 soums (1.9 times). Out of the other observed types of services, since March 2019, prices for tickets to the Tashkent zoo have increased significantly (on average by 56.3 percent).
