Non-oil industry in Azerbaijan grows

In January-March 2019, industrial production in Azerbaijan amounted to 11.5 billion manats, which is 4.4 percent more than in the first three months of 2018, Trend reports referring to State Statistical Committee (SSC) of Azerbaijan.

Production in the non-oil industry grew by 15.6 percent over a year. According to SSC, 71.7 percent of industrial products were produced in the extractive sector, 22.9 percent in processing, 4.8 percent in production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam, and 0.6 percent in water supply and treatment.

During 1Q2019, oil production increased by 0.4 percent compared to the 1Q2018 and gas production increased by 36 percent.

In the processing sector, the highest growth rates (85.6 percent) were recorded in the production of cars, trailers and semi-trailers. Production of furniture grew by 58.7 percent, machinery and equipment - by 13.2 percent, rubber and plastic products - by 59.3 percent, beverages - by 78.8 percent, paper and cardboard - by 34.6 percent, products of the spinning industry - by 61.4 percent, foodstuffs - by 26.8 percent, chemical products - by 32.6 percent, pharmaceutical products - by 44 percent, wood products - by 72.4 percent, building materials - 8.5 percent, and jewelry, musical instruments, sporting goods and medical equipment - 51.6 percent.

Production in metallurgical industry decreased by 13.9 percent, finished metal products - by 22.6 percent, electrical equipment - by 15 percent, clothing - by 28.9 percent, and leather goods, footwear - by 36 percent.

The volume of production, distribution and supply of electricity, gas and steam increased by 3.2 percent, water supply and treatment - by 9.3 percent.
