Manufacturing enterprises in Uzbekistan produce almost 80% of total production

In January-March 2019, Uzbek enterprises manufactured industrial products worth 67.4 trillion soums, while the industrial production index made 6.8 percent compared to the same period last year, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

The main factor behind the growth in overall industrial production was an increase in production in the mining industry and quarrying by 4.8 percent; manufacturing - by 7.6 percent; electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning - by 5.1 percent; and water supply, sewage, waste collection and disposal - by 9.4 percent.

The volume of products manufactured by the mining and quarrying enterprises in January-March 2019 amounted to 9.0 trillion soums, or 13.4 percent of the total industry production.

There was an increase by 4.1 percent in natural gas production and by 2.0 times in gravel production compared to the same period last year. At the same time, production of coal decreased by 25.6 percent, oil - by 6.4 percent, gas condensate - by 2.0 percent, and crushed stone - by 33.1 percent.

Manufacturing enterprises In January-March 2019, the enterprises manufactured products worth 52.4 trillion soums, or 77.8 percent of the total industry.

Compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the share of high-tech industries in the manufacturing sector was 1.2 percent (1.4 percent in January-March 2018), medium high-tech ones - 26.9 percent (26.6 percent), medium to low-tech - 38.1 percent (33.7 percent) and low-tech - 33.8 percent (38.3 percent).

In the whole industrial production, the share of the enterprises involved in the production, repair and assembly of machinery and equipment, production of cars, trailers, semi-trailers and other finished products reached 17.3 percent (increase by 23.0 percent compared to January-March 2018); the share of the metallurgical industry - 18.7 percent (5.9 percent); the share of the enterprises manufacturing textiles, clothing and leather products - 13.2 percent (2.7 percent); the share of entities producing food, beverages and tobacco products - 11.0 percent (7, 9 percent); and the share of the enterprises manufacturing chemical, rubber and plastic products - 7.7 percent (1.5 percent).

The volume of products manufactured by the enterprises of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning amounted to 5.4 trillion soums (8.0 percent of the total industry). In January-March 2019, the production, transmission and distribution of electricity, steam supply systems and air conditioning in the industry increased by 5.5 percent.

During the reporting period, enterprises with foreign investment produced goods for 24.6 trillion soums. The share of products of enterprises with foreign investments in the total volume of production amounted to 36.5 percent.

In the total volume of products produced by enterprises with foreign investments, the share of mining and quarrying enterprises amounted to 22.1 percent, with the share of manufacturing industry reaching 77.8 percent.

In the overall industrial output of the country, the largest share falls on Tashkent region (15.9 percent of the total industry), the city of Tashkent (14.6 percent), Navoi (14.0 percent), Andijan (10.6 percent), Kashkadarya (6.8 percent) and Fergana (6.1 percent) regions.

During the reporting period, small businesses produced goods worth 18.4 trillion soums.

The share of small business in the total production amounted to 27.3 percent.

In the regions, the largest share of small business was observed in the city of Tashkent (68.3 percent of the total industry of the region), Namangan (63.3 percent), Jizzakh (50.5 percent), Surkhandarya (45.5 percent), Samarkand (43.1 percent), Fergana (34.3 percent) and Syrdarya (34.0 percent) regions.

To date, there are 62,400 industrial enterprises operating in Uzbekistan, of which 14,100 (22.6 percent of the total number of existing enterprises) are located in Tashkent, 6,900 (11.0 percent) in Fergana and 6,300 (10.1 percent) - in the Tashkent region.
