By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:

Istanbul hosted a trilateral meeting on energy cooperation between Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry April 22.

The Turkmen side was represented by Shakhym Abdrakhmanov, the chairman of the Turkmengeologia State Corporation, the Azerbaijani side - by Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and the Turkish side - by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Donmez. The meeting participants discussed the prospects for the development of cooperation in the field of energy.

It was noted at the meeting that the meetings of ministers of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey, the adopted documents, the existence of common interests in the region, and the implementation of such projects as the Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey transport corridor form a solid basis for cooperation in the trilateral format, the report said.

Following the meeting, a joint declaration was signed, which envisages strengthening of ties between companies, scientific and research centers operating in the oil and gas industry, the energy sector, holding exhibitions, conferences and seminars.

The EU and Turkmenistan are committed to implementing a project designed to bring Turkmen hydrocarbon energy carriers to European markets. The negotiations have been underway since 2011.

The project of laying a 300-kilometer gas pipeline along the bottom of the Caspian Sea to the shores of Azerbaijan is optimal for the delivery of Turkmen gas to the European market. Further, the Turkmen gas can be delivered to Turkey, which borders with European countries.
