As a result of the work done in recent years, 45,000 tons of shrimp are grown annually in Iran, Hossein Abdollahi, deputy of aquaculture of Iranian Fisheries Organization, told IRNA, Trend reports.

According to Abdollahi, most of the shrimp grown in Iran is exported to other countries.

Abdollahi added that, according to Iran’s 5th National Development Program, the production of shrimp in Iran should have reached 32,000 tons annually, and currently this figure has already been surpassed.

Noting that a ban has been placed on sturgeon fishing in the sea, Abdollahi said that Iran grows 4 tons of sturgeon annually.

"It is expected that this volume will reach 10-15 tons in the next 1-2 years," he said.

Abdollahi said that fishing for sturgeons in the Caspian Sea is currently banned, and all countries adhere to this ban.
