Iran to keep International Maritime Trade Channel open

The Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran announced that the development of maritime tourism is an important strategy for the ports and maritime organization (PMO).

"The demands for maritime tourism are more than equipment and facilities,” Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development and Managing Director of Ports and Maritime Organization Mohammad Rastad said on the sidelines of a meeting in Bandar Abbas, Trend reports citing the official website of Port and Maritime Organization.

“We should involve the private sector in improving the infrastructure and equipment of the sea tourism,” said Rastad.

"This New Year (started on March 21), there were no accident in sea trips, with transportation of more than 500,000 vehicles and 6 million passengers," he said.

"Last year, despite all the US efforts against Iran, 265 million tons of cargo shipped from Iran's ports through Iranian and international transshipment companies,” said Rastad.

The official added that the process of keeping the International Maritime Trade Channel open, the activities of commercial ports and shipping fleet will continue.

"During the past sanctions, we were seeking the flag of other countries to keep our fleet activities through the using of foreign flags, but now the main fleets of the country are operated under the flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran at ports around the world,” he said.

"We are ready to respond to any US action in the field of maritime transport,” he added.
