The South Korean company Hyundai is planning to start production of electric vehicles in the Kokand free economic zone of Uzbekistan, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.

The project was presented to the head of state Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his trip to the Fergana region on May 6, 2019.

The president approved the project and emphasized the need to pay special attention to quality and timeliness in its implementation.

Earlier, representatives of the South Korean company announced plans to build a plant in Namangan region with an annual production capacity of 3,000 trucks and buses. The enterprise will assemble trucks with a carrying capacity from 1 ton to 50 tons as well as intercity, international and tourist buses, and special vehicles.

The company noted that at the first stage, the daily production will be 8-20 cars, and the annual production will reach 1,000 vehicles. Within three years, this figure will be increased to 3,000 vehicles including 2,000 trucks and 1,000 buses.

At the beginning, the spare parts will be imported from Korea. Later, in accordance with the three-year localization program, it will be possible to produce the components locally.
