Retail trade turnover in Azerbaijan continues to grow

The total value of products sold to the population of Azerbaijan through the retail trade network in January-April 2019 amounted to 11.4 billion manats, increasing by 2.7 percent compared to the same period last year, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee.

The report said that 5.71 billion manats of the trade turnover accounted for food products, beverages and tobacco products, 5.65 billion manats for non-food products. Compared to the same period last year, the value of products sold increased by 2.3 and 3 percent, respectively.

Thus, 44.9 percent of the funds spent by buyers during the reporting period accounted for the funds spent on the purchase of food products, 5.3 percent for beverages and tobacco products, 17.7 percent for textiles, clothing and footwear, 6.2 percent for electrical goods and furniture, 5.6 percent for car fuel, 1.3 percent for drugs and medical goods, 0.8 percent for computers, telecommunications equipment and printed products and 18.2 percent for other non-food products.

In January-April this year, 19.9 percent of consumer goods were sold by trade enterprises, 47.9 percent by private entrepreneurs and 32.2 percent in markets and fairs.

Compared to the same period last year, the retail turnover of enterprises increased by 27.8 percent, while the retail turnover of private entrepreneurs decreased by 1.3 percent and fairs by 3.4 percent.

During the reporting period, the average monthly retail turnover per capita was 287.6 manats, which is 9.6 manats more compared to the same period of 2018. Every resident of Azerbaijan in average bought food, drinks and tobacco products worth 144.5 manats and non-food products worth 143.1 manats every month.
