Within the framework of the project "European Water Initiative Plus for the Easter Partnership" (EUWI+ 4 EaP) a draft law on the management of water resources of the country together with the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia is being discussed in several Georgian cities from 13 to 16 May, Trend reports via the official website of the EU Water Initiative Plus for Eastern Countries.

Local dialogue events were organized in Kvareli, Sighnaghi, Telavi, Sagarejo, Bolnisi, Tetritskaro and Tianeti.

With the support of EUWI+, Georgia has begun developing Alaziani-Iori and Khrami-Debed river basin management plans. These plans describe the environmental goals for each river and measures to achieve them.

In 2020, the second stage of consultations on draft River Basin Management Plans and the Program of Measures in 2020 will take place.

The main objective of the project is to improve the management of water resources, in particular transboundary rivers, to develop tools for improving water quality in the long term and its accessibility for all.

The project helps Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine to bring their legislation closer to the EU's water management policy, focusing on the management of transboundary river basins. It supports the development and implementation of pilot river basin management plans, building on improved policy frameworks and ensuring the active participation of local stakeholders.
