A new cooperative project of Georgia and Kazakhstan is being discussed, which will allow the Kazakh side to have access to Georgian ports on the Black Sea and further in the Mediterranean, said the head of the Georgian government Mamuka Bakhtadze, reports Trend via Sputnik Georgia.

On May 15, during the official visit of the Georgian Prime Minister to the capital of Kazakhstan to participate in the XII Astana Economic Forum, the heads of two states agreed to triple trade turnover, and also discussed cooperation in the transit and transport sphere, including in the framework of the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).

TITR is an international transport corridor that runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and further to Turkey and European countries. Its members are leading maritime and transport companies from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, China and Turkey.

"Kazakhstan is interested in increasing wheat exports to Georgia. We are also interested in this. In addition, using the ports of Georgia will give Kazakhstan the opportunity to increase exports to the Mediterranean basin. This is a very difficult project that needs to be well worked out, but I am sure that by joint efforts we will succeed in this," said Bakhtadze.

According to him, Georgia and Kazakhstan should use their transit capabilities.

"Kazakhstan together with Georgia is an important transport axis, and it is important that we offer joint logistics projects by international companies," said Bakhtadze.

The prime minister spoke positively about the increase in the number of direct flights between Georgia and Kazakhstan and tourists. In the first four months of 2019, the citizens of Kazakhstan crossed the border 54.9 percent more often than last year.

In the framework of the visit of the Georgian government delegation to Kazakhstan, a "Roadmap on expanding the range of mutual commodity turnover in 2019-2022" was signed.

"There were identified areas in which we can offer a completely new product to the international market, such as the chemical industry, and I am sure that we will have concrete success in this direction," said Bakhtadze.

Summing up the visit to Nur-Sultan (former Astana), the prime minister assessed his visit as fruitful and expressed confidence that this would give a new impetus to the deepening of economic and political relations.

On May 16, the 12th Astana Economic Forum started, at which Bakhtadze spoke about the economic potential of Georgia in order to attract investments.

Diplomatic relations between Georgia and Kazakhstan were established on July 24, 1992.

Georgia and Kazakhstan are actively cooperating in the areas of trade, energy and transport. In 2018, the foreign trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Georgia increased by 34.6 percent and amounted to about $100 million. Heads of Government planned to increase mutual trade and bring to $300 million.
