Turkmenistan, Belarus intensify joint economic projects

A regular meeting of Intergovernmental Turkmen-Belarus Commission on Economic Cooperation was held in the Turkmen capital of Ashgabat, Trend reports referring to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

The Turkmen delegation was headed by Deputy Prime Minister Mammethan Chakiyev, and the Belarusian delegation by Deputy Prime Minister Igor Lyashenko.

The parties evaluated the possibilities of increasing commodity circulation and intensifying joint projects, particularly in the areas of construction, transport and the agricultural industry, the information says.

Textile and light industry, the construction industry, and the transport and communications sector were named among the priority areas of cooperation.

The Turkmen Dovlet Habarlary state news agency noted that proposals were made on providing supplies of trucks and buses, agricultural equipment, and elevator equipment produced in Belarus to Turkmenistan.

The partnership in software products of the banking field, automated information systems for managing freight traffic for the railways of Turkmenistan, accounting and payment for housing and communal services are among the promising directions of cooperation.

The mutual trade between Turkmenistan and Belarus reached $65 million in 2017 and amounted to $32.2 million in 2018.
