Uzbek Ambassador to Belarus Nasirdzhan Yusupov met with the leadership of the Belorussian Universal Commodity Exchange OJSC (BUCE) where he discussed ways of enhancing the Belorussian-Uzbek trade and economic cooperation, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the exchange.

Uzbek diplomat stated that despite close political, economic and cultural ties between the two countries, the potential of the Belorussian-Uzbek cooperation in the field of trade today is not fully realized.

“For the first four months of this year, the share of Uzbekistan in mutual trade with Belarus does not exceed 10 percent, in accordance with statistics. This is a clear imbalance that we would like to correct, including through more active use of the capabilities of the electronic exchange platform,” Yusupov said during the meeting.

“Many Uzbek goods are in demand in Belarus, therefore, the only thing required is to help the Uzbek exporter and Belorussian importer to meet online and make a deal,” he added.

The ambassador stressed that the trade can start with the supply of cotton raw materials, metal products or even dried fruits, although this is not a classic exchange commodity.

The meeting participants also discussed the main issues that hinder the greater involvement of Uzbek and Belorussian business entities in cross-border exchange trading, read the message.

Following the talks, the parties agreed to draw up a list of current problems in the mutual trade of Belarus and Uzbekistan and to work out joint proposals for their settlement.
