A number of countries plan to establish delivery of goods via Kazakh Aktau port, Trend reports via Casp-Geo.

China is among them and is planning to establish goods delivery to Central and Eastern Europe via the port.

“This is a new direction. Currently this cargo connection is not established, but the departures of shuttle trains three times a months are already planned. The route begins in Lianyungang port via Altynkol border crossing, then moves to Aktau and after that to other countries of Caucasus area and Europe via Caspian Sea. The cargo will consist of consumer goods and of grouped goods from the South of China,” the report said.

“This year China is planning to send 500 containers. The route via Aktau would benefit cargo shippers due to the possibility of reducing the shipping time up to two thirds,” the statement said.

Furthermore, Polish port of Gdańsk is also looking into Trans-Caspian International Transport Route. This is among last destinations of the route and connects it to Scandinavia and UK.

“We have a multi-purpose terminal at our disposal, which can receive container and general cargo. Thus, we are interested in developing a sea route from Kazakhstan. Currently, we are working on cooperation with Romania port Constanța. Based on our research we came to a conclusion that the tariff policy is acceptable. The expenditures on cargo transshipment within the Trans-Caspian route will be worth it,” said the head of the marketing department of the port.

In 2018 the port broke its own record when via Gdansk embankments and terminals some 49 million tons of cargo were transported.

The route from Dostyk to Sławków is 6,855 km long. The capacity of the terminal in Sławków is 280,000 TEU a year. The estimated volume of container transit via Kazakhstan in 2020 is 800,000 TEU a year.
