South Korea looks to preserve trade with Iran, yet obstacles remain

South Korea seeks to preserve it's trade ties with Iran, however the country's banks are not cooperating with Iranian companies, said head of Iran-South Korea joint Chamber of Commerce Pouya Firozi, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"The South Korean ambassador has also expressed his tendency to continue trade ties with Iran but nothing has gone beyond statements," said Firozi.

" We are following to trade of medical items through checks, and overall the negotiations are still ongoing," he said.

"Some of the pre-existing exports permit agricultural items and fisheries, and we're waiting for the final announcement by Iran's Ministry of Agriculture," he said.

The official indicated the Export Guarantee Fund of Iran has not supported South Korean businessmen so far.

The recent reports by the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran have shown Iran and South Korea trade volume in non-oil exports during past eight month of last Iranian year (started March 21, 2018) amounted to $2.5 billion.

While Iran's share from exports to South Korea was worth $853 million, South Korea has exported $1.7 billion worth of goods to Iran.

Gas condensate, refined lead ,oxides, urea , aluminium , zinc, copper concentrates were the major items exported from Iran to South Korea, while South Korea exported paper, cardboard, refrigerator parts, mobile phones, auto parts and antilock brake system to Iran.

The reports indicate Iran has exported $7.8 billion worth of crude oil to South Korea in 2017.
