Number of Kazakh insurance companies down, value of assets up

In April 2019, the total value of Kazakh insurance companies’ assets increased by annual 17.6 percent and amounted to 1.1 trillion tenge, Trend reports referring to Ranking.kz

Notwithstanding that, the number of operating insurance companies decreased to 27 compared to 32 companies in April 2018.

The major part of the assets accounts for securities, i.e. 53.7 percent or 599 billion tenge, which is 31.8 percent more than in the same period of last year.

The placed deposits and reinsurance assets amount to 19.6 percent and 10.1 percent respectively. Taken together, the sum of assets equals 331.6 billion tenge.

The percentage of insurance premiums in the total structure equals to 4.4 percent or 48.6 billion tenge, which is 7.7 percent more than in the same period of the previous year.

In turn, cash and cash equivalents amount to 3.3 percent of assets.

As at the end of April, the assets of Eurasia, the largest insurance company in the country, stood at 270.4 billion tenge, which is 12 percent more than in the same period of last year; its percentage of the market equaled to 24.2 percent.

The second and the third place by the sum of assets accounts for Halyk Life (146.7 billion tenge, 13.1 percent of the market) and Halyk (127 billion tenge, 11.4 percent of the market) insurance companies, the branches of national Halyk Bank.

The largest increase of the assets is displayed by Halyk Life and Halyk companies, with increase of the assets by 2.2 times and 2.4 times respectively.

The total value of their assets equals to 153.7 billion tenge.
