By Matanat Nasibova – Trend:

A specialized store selling Turkmen textiles is planned to be opened in Baku by the end of this year, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan Mekan Ishanguliyev told Trend.

According to the ambassador, this initiative was launched by the Turkmen side as a pilot project in the production of textile products.

"The opening of this store in Baku is carried out by Turkmen businessmen with the organizational support of the government of Turkmenistan. The store will exhibit finished products from Turkmen textile enterprises, ranging from clothing to household textile accessories. Residents of Baku will be able to purchase textile products at retail, as well as order for wholesale lots,” Ishanguliyev said.

The ambassador noted that the textile industry of Turkmenistan is very developed, as the country is the main cotton producer in Central Asia.

"We produce cotton and fully process it. We have all the necessary production facilities. Turkmen textile products are in great demand in the neighboring countries and on the European market, so we believe that it will be able to compete with Turkish textiles, which hold a significant share in industrial imports of Azerbaijan. It seems that Turkmen products will not yield to the Turkish ones in quality and will be more affordable," Ishanguliyev noted.

The ambassador noted that detailed discussions are currently underway on the opening of a new shopping facility in Baku with AZPROMO, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economy, the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations of Azerbaijan, and private Turkmen business.
