Retail trade turnover in Azerbaijan continues to grow

The total cost of products sold to the population of Azerbaijan through the retail trade network in January-May 2019 increased by 2.8 percent compared to the same period last year and amounted to 14.3 billion manats, Trend reports referring to Azerbaijan’s State Statistical Committee.

Some 7.2 billion manats of trade turnover accounted for food products, beverages and tobacco products, 7.1 billion manats – for non-food products. Compared to the same period last year, the cost of goods sold increased by 2.4 percent and 3.1 percent, respectively.

Thus, 45.2 percent of the funds spent by buyers during the reporting period accounted for funds spent on the purchase of food products, 5 percent for beverages and tobacco products, 18 percent for textiles, clothing and footwear, 6.1 percent for electrical goods and furniture, 5.7 percent for car fuel, 1.3 percent for drugs and medical goods, 0.7 percent for computers, telecommunications equipment and printed products, 18 percent for other non-food products.

In January-May this year, 20.5 percent of consumer goods were sold by trade enterprises, 48.4 percent by private entrepreneurs and 31.1 percent in markets and fairs.

Compared to the same period last year, the retail turnover of enterprises grew by 27.5 percent, private entrepreneurs by 0.1 percent, while the trade turnover of fairs decreased by 5.4 percent.

In the reporting period, the average monthly retail turnover per capita amounted to 290,100 manats, which is 10.4 manats more compared to the same period in 2018.
