Another water channel to appear in western Turkey

A 51-km-long channel will be built in Izmir province in western Turkey, a source in the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend June 19.

The construction will be handled by the State Hydraulic Works of Turkey.

“The Izmir channel is being built solely to prevent mudflows,” the ministry said.

The total project cost is 30 million liras.

Earlier, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend that the construction of a channel in Turkey’s western Edirne province is nearing end.

The construction of the channel in Edirne province was launched in 2015. The total length of the channel will be 7.8 kilometers, while width - 50 meters.

This channel is being built to prevent mudflows, the ministry said.
