Import of cars to Uzbekistan may grow 5-6 times

The concept of the development of the automotive industry in Uzbekistan until 2025 forecasts that imports of cars into the country can grow 5-6 times, Trend reports via Uzbek media.

Last year, 2.800 passenger cars were imported to the country in the amount of $35.4 million.

Currently, the potential volume of imports of automotive products is no more than 5 percent. However, in the future it can grow up to 25-30 percent with the condition of further growth of the constantly updated and expanding model range of brands produced in the CIS countries.

A promising area of ​​activity will be the elaboration of the organization of production of electric vehicles and the formation of the necessary infrastructure for their wide distribution among consumers in Uzbekistan.

The following indicators are planned to be achieved in the automotive industry by 2025, according to the concept: output growth from the current 220,000 to 300,000 cars or 1.4 times, including 9,000 light commercial vehicles.

The capacity utilization level can grow to at least 85 percent, the export volume (together with buses and trucks) increased from the current 4,700 to 25,700 vehicles or 5.5 times.

The method of SKD (Semi-Knocked Down) will not exceed 10 percent of the total production, and the number of people employed in the industry will increase from 25,500 to 35,000 people or 1.4 times. As a result, the level of motorization in the country should be 116 cars per 1,000 people.
