There are forecasts that 50,000 tons of shrimp will be produced in Iran this Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), Deputy Director-General for Aquaculture of Iran’s Fishery Organization Hossein Abdollahi said, Trend reports referring to the website of the Ministry of Agriculture of Iran.

He said that these figures exceed those reflected in the 6th development program, according to which about 42,000 tons of shrimp were to be produced.

Though the development program envisaged production of 33,000 tons of shrimp last year (started March 21, 2018), the actual production reached 47,000 tons, he noted.

“There were 11,000 hectares of the area for the cultivation of shrimp last year, and this year, this area has been extended by nearly 1,000 hectares,” he said.

He noted that about 489,000 tons of seafood were produced last year in the country, adding that this figure will reach 530,000 tons this year.
