Turkey eyes to increase tourism revenues - ministry

In 2019, Turkey intends to increase revenues from tourism by at least $5.5 billion, a source in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey told Trend.

Last year, Turkey planned to receive income from tourism in the amount of $29.5 billion and achieved this goal, according to the ministry.

“In 2019, Turkey plans to receive income from tourism in the amount of $35 billion,” the ministry said.

It was stressed that in 2019, Turkey plans to receive 51 million tourists.

During the first quarter of 2019, Turkey’s tourism revenues amounted to $4.6 billion, indicating a 4.6-percent increase over the same period of 2018. Of the total income received by the tourism sector in the first quarter this year, 80.3 percent accounted for foreign tourists. The remaining 19.7 percent were comprised by Turkish citizens living abroad.
