Syria seeks to attract investments from Iran

Syrian Deputy Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Rania al-Ahmad has announced that priority of the country is to attract investments from Iran for reconstruction projects in Syria.

"Our priority is to attract investment from Iran. The priority in trade is with individuals that bring goods from Iran to Syria," she said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"The new investment law has been drafted in Syria that is currently in the final stages so the necessary investment for reconstruction will be attracted. In fact, we are gathering all the investments under one umbrella to avoid various confrontations," she said at a Conference on Investment Opportunities in Syria held in Tehran.

The official emphasized that the implemented projects in Syria would be on the frame work of the new investment law.

"Instead of imports we would like to become self-sufficient and in this field private sector should help us to establish industrial cities," she indicated.

“All the official negotiations between two countries indicate that the two are highly inclined to cooperate," she added.

Syrian Ambassador to Tehran, Adnan Hassan Mahmoud also described Iran as a major commercial partner in the time of Syria’s reconstruction, saying, “We have strategic cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran and as Iran once helped Syria in the times of war, the collaborations will continue in the period of reconstruction.

On Feb 25, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani emphasized that it will support, cooperate and help the Syrian government like before.
