Uzbekistan increased cement imports by 32%

For seven months of 2019, Uzbekistan increased cement imports by almost a third, Trend reports citing the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

As follows from the published information, in January-July of the current year, cement worth $105.6 million was imported into the country, which is an increase of 32.3 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2018.

In the structure of imports of building materials to the country, the share of cement increased to 14.1 percent, read the message.

Along with the growth of imports of knitting building material to the country, the domestic production of cement is increasing as well. According to the State Statistics Committee, for the seven months of 2019, 5,399 million tons of cement were produced with an increase of 17.6 percent (4.69 million tons in January-July 2018).

As previously reported, in October this year, Uzbekistan will abolish the customs exemption for cement importers, which was introduced by the Decree of the head of state on October 30, 2018.

Since last fall, a new cement plant is building with a capacity of 2.4 million products per year. The project worth $420 million is implemented with the participation of investors from China, Gansu Hengya CementCo LTD, in the Kattakurgan district of the Samarkand region.

Another Chinese company, Huaxin Cement, will build a new cement plant in Zafarabad district of Jizzakh region with a total value of $150 million and a capacity of 1.2 million tons of products per year. The project is implemented by Huaxin CementJizzakh limited liability company. It is planned that the new facility will be commissioned in December 2019.
