Rise in food prices in Uzbekistan

According to the results of August 2019, the level of prices for food products in Uzbekistan increased by 2.3 percent per month, Trend reports citing the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

In general, in January-August 2019, food products added 6.9 percent in price.

In annual terms (August 2019 compared to August 2018), food products rose in price by 19.7 percent.

The long-term consumer price index, calculated by December 2017, for food products amounted to 122.8 percent.

According to the calculation results, the average monthly increase in the consumer price index from January 2018 to August 2019 for food and non-food products amounted to 1 percent.

In August of this year, of the main groups of food products, meat, poultry and fish (6.3 percent per month), as well as eggs (3.5 percent) and soft drinks (3.1 percent) rose most significantly in a month.

The prices in public catering in Uzbekistan for the month increased by 2.6 percent. It should be noted that of the main groups of food products, price reductions for the month were noted only for fruits (0.5 percent).

Most of all, for the month the prices for tomatoes fell - by 12.7 percent, watermelons - by 10.7 percent and onions - by 9.9 percent. On the other hand, price on cucumbers added 27.6 percent, cabbage - 16.9 percent, and garlic - 15.1 percent.
