About 10,000 tons of grapes were processed in the Kakheti region of Georgia as of September 5, Trend reports referring to the Georgian National Wine Agency of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia.

Among the main grape varieties, 3,600 tons of Saperavi, 2,400 tons of Rkatsiteli, and 1,500 tons of Mtsvane Kahuri were processed.

Saperavi is the most ancient variety of Georgian red grapes. Saperavi grapes are famous for being a rare variety, in which the juice is not transparent, but has beet-red color.

Rkatsiteli is the most common grape variety in eastern Georgia. It belongs to the group of technical varieties of the Black Sea basin.

Mtsvane is one of the most valuable native Georgian grape varieties. Mtsvane grapes come in two varieties: Mtsvane Kahuri, which is grown in Kakheti, and Mtsvane Goruli, which is grown in the Gori valley.

As reported, this year, about 200,000-250,000 tons of grapes are expected to harvested in Kakheti. The National Wine Agency has mobilized efforts to ensure that farmers do not have problems with the delivery of grapes. The agency participates in the harvesting process, while it does not interfere in the pricing process and regulation of the free market.

Currently, 23 Georgian wineries are engaged in grape processing in various municipalities of the Kakheti region. About 160 wineries have already been registered with the Coordination Headquarters for the production of grapes, which will participate in various stages of the harvest process.
