Cargo volume transportation between Kazakhstan, China to exceed forecast

Following the end of 2019, some 16 million tons of cargo will be transported via railways between Kazakhstan and China, instead of the planned 15 million tons, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC (Kazakhstan Railways).

At the same time it is planned that the volume of cargo sent from Kazakhstan to China will be 10 million tons and another six million tons will be sent from China to Kazakhstan.

Furthermore, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and China Railways have agreed on the record breaking increase of a number of transported trains on the Dostyk – Alashankou railway border. Now the Alashankou station will be receiving no less than 14 trains a day via broad gauge instead of 12 trains previously and the Dostyk station will be receiving no less than 12 trains a day via narrow gauge instead of 8 trains previously.

“This agreement is being implemented starting from September 5, 2019,” the report said.

Furthermore, since the beginning of the year, some 2,013 container trains went through the territory of Kazakhstan on the route China-Europe-China, which is 25 percent more than during the same period of last year. This number includes 1,147 trains from Kazakhstan to Europe, which is 14 percent more than during the same period of last year.

Another 866 trains were heading from Europe to Kazakhstan, which is also 43 percent more than in the same period of last year.
