Petrochemical Research and Technology Company (PRTC) and Tabriz Petrochemical Company (TPC) signed technical cooperation agreement for the production of polymer products, Trend reports citing ILNA.

“The company has been working on heavy density polyethylene (HDPE) technology for about 15 years and is now capable of delivering the know-how of this technology,” Director of PRTC Ali Pajouhan stated at signing ceremony, which took place on the sidelines of the 13th IranPlast International Exhibition.

According to the agreement, PRTC will offer technical savvy to the HDPE production unit of Tabriz Petrochemical Plant, which will allow to increase the production up to 310,000 tons a year, he added.

In addition, the contract provides the basis for research and development on HDPE while offering the hardware and software related to this project.

"It is the first time that a polymer product is produced in Iran based on domestic knowledge,” Tabriz Petrochemical Company's CEO Siavash Dorshashi said at the ceremony. He added that TPC plans to double its production in the next four years.

At the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Oil Behzad Mohammadi announced the development of a project on methanol-to-propylene conversion (PVM or propylene via methanol) project in East Azerbaijan province.

Having stressed the importance of using technical knowledge for converting methanol to propylene due to the abundance of natural gas in the country, he added: "Implementation of the PVM project is under consideration and I hope it will be launched by the end of the year."
