The volume of wheat purchased from farmers in Iran during six months of this Iranian year has decreased by 2.5 million tons compared to the same period of last Iranian year, Mohammad Shafi Malikzadeh, Chairman of the Agricultural and Natural Resources Conservation System of Iran, said.

According to the latest statistics, 7.65 million tons of wheat were purchased from farmers, Malikzadeh added, Trend reports referring to the Young Journalists Club.

He added that the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture offered 22,950 rials (about $0.54) per kg to the Iran Plan and Budget Organization for the purchase of wheat from farmers.

However, the farmers are displeased with this amount. As for the production costs, the price of 1 kg of wheat should be purchased from farmers at 28,680 rials (about $0.68), Malikzadeh said.

He said that the reasonable price for the purchase of wheat from farmers must be set.

He added that Iran consumes 10.5 million tons of wheat per year.

Wheat and a number of products are purchased from farmers in Iran upon a guarantee.
