President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the development of roads in the country, and attraction of investments in this sphere, Trend reports citing presidential press service.
The meeting discussed the development of this area, stable financing of road construction projects.
In particular, it was noted about the need for active involvement of international organizations and private partners in the construction and repair of roads, and instructions were given on the implementation of 18 major projects based on such a partnership, covering 1,600 kilometers of roads of international and national importance.
Much attention will be paid to the construction of high-speed highways with the participation of private partners.
Moreover, according to the president, it is necessary to form a working group on the radical reform of the roads and develop a Strategy for the Development of Roads for 2020-2030.
Currently, the State Committee for Roads performs the functions of the customer, contractor, and operator, as a result of which other companies in this sector are unable to participate in international projects.
In this regard, it is planned to withdraw construction organizations from the committee system and organize the Uzavtoyul joint-stock company on their basis.
Furthermore, the need to create, together with German partners, a design institute in the field of road construction, a radical revision of regulations in the field of road construction, taking into account the peculiarities of the climate and traffic of Uzbekistan were also noted.
Also, an electronic database of all roads and a program for installing special measuring tools for trucks carrying goods will be formed.
