Uzbekistan expects to sign a new comprehensive bilateral agreement with the European Union in 2020, as stated by First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Uzbekistan Sadyk Safaev at a press conference at the Agency of Information and Mass Communications, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

The Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA) will replace the current partnership and cooperation agreement, which has been in force since 1999.

The first round of negotiations on the new document took place in February in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, the second was held in June in Brussels, and the third in September - again in Tashkent.

“The negotiations are going well. We hope that next year we will be able to reach a conclusion,” Safaev said, characterizing the dynamics of relations with the European Union.

The first deputy Chairman of the Senate said that the new agreement provides for more advanced economic, political and cultural relations with the European Union.
