Economic Reforms Center: Azerbaijan's agricultural exports totals $411.8 M

From January to June 2019, Azerbaijan exported agricultural products worth $411.8 million, which is 27.9 percent more compared to the same period last year, Executive Director of Azerbaijan’s Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communication Vusal Gasimli said during a discussion of the Strategic Road Map of Azerbaijan for agricultural production and processing, Trend reports.

Gasimli noted that over the past years, necessary steps have been take and important success has been achieved in this direction.

In the first seven months of 2019, the gross agricultural product increased by 6.3 percent in Azerbaijan compared to the same period of 2018. Meanwhile, the crop production and livestock production increased by 9.5 and 3.1 percent, respectively. A significant increase in yield was also achieved for vegetables, gourds and individual fruit sectors. Some 643 tons of cocoons were produced in the country, which is the highest figure in the last 21 years.

In general, with the exception of green tea leaves, in the first six months of 2019, the overall volume of production in agriculture increased.

Touching upon the Road Map, Gasimli said that it envisages implementation of nine strategic goals and 36 strategic priorities to achieve the goals by 2020. These goals include, among others, strengthening institutional capacity for food security, facilitating access to finance, developing agricultural markets, increasing rural employment and welfare.
