By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:

The total trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan increased by 76 percent over the first eight months of 2019, Trend reports referring to Kazakh Khabar 24 news agency.

During this period, the trade turnover reached about $90 million. Among the most frequently transported goods were oil and gas products, grains, textile, flour products and household goods.

The Turkmen economist Muhamedgeldy Ataev considers that the agricultural sector may become a priority, the report said.

"In Turkmenistan, we have enormous opportunities for growing vegetables, melons and producing livestock products. Considering these, we can create bridges of mutual cooperation with the western regions of Kazakhstan," Ataev said.

The report, citing the Ministry of Finance and Economics of Turkmenistan, states that 12 companies from Kazakhstan operate in the country. Over 100 agreements have been signed between the two countries.

Priority in bilateral cooperation of neighboring countries is given to the energy sector and the transport and communications industry.
