Tehran, Iran, Oct.14

Trend:

Car manufacturers in Iran have been abusing the situation with sanctions, and were refusing to install diesel filters in their own produced cars, said the head of Department of Environment of Iran, Isa Kalantari, Trend reports via Mehr News Agency.

"The automakers claim due to sanctions they should be exempted from installing filters on diesel vehicles," said Kalantari.

"During the past six years, before the re-impose of sanctions, local automakers have not been installing filters, so more than 60 percent of Tehran's air pollution is due to diesel vehicles," he said.

"The automakers are abusing the concept of improving production to produce vehicles at any cost," Kalantari added. "The automakers managers are looking for personal gains."

Kalantari said that abusing this situation is strange, as Iran expects more environmental education in local universities, to train managers on this matter.
