Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed relevant authorities to organize leather and footwear enterprises in the Surkhandarya region during his visit to the region, Trend reports citing the president’s press service.

The president criticized the fact that there is not a single enterprise for processing of skin despite the region harvests over 870,000 skins per year. The Uzcharmsanoat Association, the Ministry of Economy and Industry, and the region’s administration have been tasked with organizing modern leather and shoe enterprises.

In addition to the ongoing projects in the region, new investment projects have been developed for a total amount of more than $1.37 billion, which will be implemented in the next two years, said the report.

Over the past nine months, the region’s enterprises exported goods worth $125 million; the forecast is 104 percent complete.

In order to further increase exports, president entrusted to create a free economic zone in the territory of the logistics center “Termez Cargo Center”. This will allow establishing a visa-free stay in the zone, as well as carrying out customs clearance, issuance of a caravan permit and other services for the export, import and transit of goods on a one-stop basis.

The need for continued diversification of agriculture and allocation of land on 40,000 hectares of fine-fiber cotton in the Angora, Kyzyryk, Muzrabat, Termez and Sherabad districts in 2020 was indicated.

The president also tasked to organize large livestock complexes in clusters based on the available free space.
