EIB may finance projects on modernization of Uzbekistan’s heat supply systems

Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov and European Investment Bank (EIB)’s Vice President Vazil Hudak discussed further cooperation to accelerate financing of a number of projects to modernize heating systems of the country, Trend reports citing the press service of the Ministry investments and foreign trade.

The parties also discussed cooperation in solid waste management and the development of renewable energy sources, not excluding the possibility of their implementation in cooperation with other financial institutions on the sidelines of the Annual Meeting of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

During the discussion of the current state of partnership, the parties agreed on the need to fully utilize the existing potential for cooperation, recognizing the progress already achieved in terms of cooperation on a number of sustainable environmental development projects in the Aral Sea region.

Moreover, the sides agreed on the need for a systematic approach to the implementation of projects, considering the EIB's close assistance in implementing the Strategy adopted in Oct. for the transition of Uzbekistan to the green economy in the period of 2019-2030.

The strategy provides for the implementation of comprehensive measures aimed at deepening structural transformations, modernization and diversification basic sectors of the economy and balanced socio-economic development of territories.
