Iran's commercial ports have important role in the country's non-oil exports, CEO of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) Mohammad Rastad said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"In the current Iranian year (began March 21, 2019) and last year, non-oil exports surpassed the non-oil imports by almost 2 times weight wise, through the country's commercial ports," he said.

"The PMO has put in a place a special incentive for non-oil exports through the country's ports, including a 25-percent discount on ship duties, to enhance competitiveness of exports," Rastad said.

"In order to provide proper infrastructure for export development, numerous investments have been made in the country's ports," said the official.

Rastad also mentioned that this year a big private investment was made in Iran's Shahid Rajaee port.

The official said that PMO's strategy on this is to improve the capacity of the ports, provide necessary equipment, as well as grant appropriate discounts for Iran's exports to become more competitive.
