Azerbaijan's seaports reduce cargo transshipment

The volume of loaded and unloaded cargo by Azerbaijan’s seaports stood at 6.07 million tons from January through September 2019, compared with 7.34 million tons in the same period last year, Trend reports citing the State Statistics Committee of the country.

The data shows that 5.56 million tons or 91.6 percent of the total volume of loaded and unloaded cargo accounted for transit cargo.

As noted, the volume of cargo remaining at the ports as of October 1 amounted to 176,700 tons.

The volume of cargo transportation via the country's sea transport amounted to 4.47 million tons from January through September 2019, down by 27.5 percent compared to the same period last year, the committee says.

Oil cargo accounted for 34.4 percent of the total cargo volume transported by sea, reads the report.

This is while the number of passenger transportation by sea during the reporting period stood at 15,800 people, 30.6 percent more compared with the same period last year, the committee says.

All Azerbaijani ports (Baku, Astara, Lankaran and Sumgayit) are located on the coast of the Caspian Sea. The Baku port has large oil terminals in Dubendi and Sangachal.
