EBRD eyes to support private business in Turkmenistan

A meeting with the head of the local representative office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Fatih Turkmenoglu was held at the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET), Trend reports referring to the UIET.

"The EBRD will continue to work actively with the Turkmen private sector to promote business development through financial and advisory services," said the report of the UIET.

At the meeting, when discussing cooperation, special emphasis was placed on large projects, to the implementation of which the UIET intends to attract foreign investors, the report said.

The sides spoke in favor of building up a business partnership.

The EBRD was established in 1991. The bank has invested 280 million euros in total in various sectors of the economy of Turkmenistan as part of 72 investment projects implemented throughout the country. It forecasts a growth in Turkmenistan's real GDP of 6.3 percent in 2019 and 6 percent in 2020, provided that external demand for gas remains.
