Kazakhstan to increase SMEs share to 50% of country's GDP

As of October 1, 2019, the number of small and medium business entities (SMEs) registered in Kazakhstan amounted to 1.6 million entities, Kazakh Vice Minister of National Economy Zhaslan Madiev said, Trend reports with reference to the press office of prime minister of Kazakhstan.

According to Madiev, number of those employed by SMEs amounted to 3.3 million people as of July 1, 2019.

Madiev noted that according to the official statistics, share of small and medium business in Kazakhstan’s GDP was 28.5 percent from January through June 2019.

“Our goal is to bring this indicator to 30 percent by 2025 and to 50 percent by 2050, which is corresponding to indicators of developed countries. Value of goods manufactured by SMEs amounted to 12.7 trillion tenge (approximately $32.7 billion) during 1H2019, which is an increase of 10.8 percent compared to the same period of last year,” he said.

Madiev went on to say that SMEs manufacturing during 2018 was 26.5 trillion tenge (approximately $68.3 billion), which is 70 percent more than during 2015.

Кazakhstan ranks 25th in Doing Business 2020 report published by the World Bank. According to Madiev, over the course of the last two years, Kazakhstan has improved by 11 positions, displaying record breaking results of implemented reforms.
