Uzbekistan receives over $100M of investments for innovations

Within the framework of InnoWeek-2019 (Innovation Week), Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Innovative Development signed memorandums of understanding and investment agreements with businessmen of China, Turkey, Israel, Poland, South Korea and India for a total of $108.7 million, Trend reports with reference to the press service of the ministry.

On the first day of the week, the Ministry of Innovative Development signed memorandums of understanding for a total of $96.5 million aimed at developing bilateral cooperation with investors from China, Turkey, Israel, Poland and India.

On the second day, the Ministry of Innovation Development and South Korean investors signed an investment agreement providing for bilateral cooperation in the amount of $6.3 million, on the third day - between investors and enthusiasts in the total amount of $5.9 million.

“Memorandums of understanding and investment agreements totaling $108.7 million were signed within the week,” the ministry reported.

In total, the event was attended by representatives of leading companies from 18 foreign countries.

At the round table, the Uzbekistan’s goal for the entry into the 50 strongest states in the Global Innovation Index by 2030 was announced.

In this regard, with the assistance of the Dutch Elsevier publishing house, an online dialogue was held with the founder of the Global Innovation Index (GII) on the main factors of Uzbekistan's entry into GII.

Intensive discussions took place at a seminar on the use of artificial intelligence in the economy of Uzbekistan and the prospects for the development of this sphere.

The major event of the Week - the "International Innovation and Investment Forum" was attended by the heads of foreign diplomatic missions, domestic and foreign entrepreneurs, employees of research institutes, and media representatives.

The international innovation and investment forum was attended by more than 35 foreign and more than 20 domestic speakers. In particular, the forum was chaired by the head of the Asia and Pacific Center for Transfer of Technology of United Nations’ Economic and Social Commission of the United Nations for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Michiko Enomoto.
