Iran, Tajikistan eye increase of trade ties

Iran and Tajikistan are negotiating to improve and expand the trade ties, said deputy head of Iran's Trade Promotion Organization.

"Iran's policy is to expand non-oil exports to neighbor and Central Asian countries and considering Tajikistan location, we should use this advantage," said Ali Ghafori Moghadam, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"Tajikistan imports sweets, chocolates, petrochemical products, construction materials, agricultural products, livestock and detergents, so Iran can use its capacity to export these products," the deputy head noted adding that representative offices of Iranian brands should be established in Tajikistan to develop partnership in industry, mine and trade sector.

"In 2018, Iran exported non-oil products in the amount of $78 million to Tajikistan. Iran's major exports included pastry, sweets, pistachio, detergents, aluminum oxide, medicines, pipes, glass sheet, tiles and ceramics, bread, while the imported goods from Tajikistan were mainly cotton, silk cocoon, zinc, angiography instruments, paper rolls and plastic materials," Moghadam said.

"There is a need to form a joint Iranian-Tajik chamber of commerce to improve the ties. Production, power distribution, food items and packaging, equipment and mineral services, air transportation and tourism are the sectors with good prospects for cooperation with Tajikstan," he added.

The Fifth Exclusive Exhibition of Iran will be held in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, on Dec. 21–24, 2019.
