BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 13

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Iran should increase honey exports by 6 times, Gholamhossein Tahmasebi, deputy advisor to Iran’s deputy agriculture minister and head of Apiculture Society of Iran, said at the Honey Festival in the Jam district of Bushehr province, Trend reports referring to the Young Journalists Club (YJC).

Tahmasebi noted that 1,500 tons of honey are annually exported from Iran, adding that the country annually produces 90,000 tons of honey.

“Honey exports should exceed 10,000 tons,” the deputy advisor said.

Tahmasebi added that according to FAO (UN Food and Agriculture Organization) statistics, Iran ranks third in honey production after China and Turkey.

The deputy advisor also said that in terms of the number of bee families, Iran ranks fourth with 7.4 million bee families after India, China and Turkey.

“The honey produced in Iran’s Bushehr province has quality that meets world standards,” Tahmasebi noted.
