Iran, Georgia intend to expand cooperation in transport and energy spheres

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 18

Iran and Georgia emphasized the need to remove barriers to economic and banking cooperation, said Chairman of Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mojtaba Zolnour, Trend reports with reference to Iranian News Agency (IRNA).

He made the remark during his meeting with Head of Georgia-Iran Friendship Group Shalva Kiknavelidze who was on a visit to Iran on November 17.

Speaking about the historical and cultural ties between the two peoples and the growing ties between Iran and Georgia, Zolnour noted that the interests of the sphere of cooperation are directed at developing and strengthening relations in such fields as transport, oil and energy, culture, education, agriculture and tourism.

According to him, the Iranian Parliament also welcomes the strengthening of relations.

“The standardization of Iran’s export goods to Georgia on the basis of European indicators is so strict that this issue needs to be addressed,” he said.

Zolnour praised the relationship for strengthening ties between specialized committees in the parliaments of the two countries.

In turn, Shalva Kiknavelidze, referring to the geographical location of Georgia and favorable conditions for investments, said that there is great potential for expanding cooperation in various fields, including the field of education, energy and tourism.

Relations between Iran and Georgia are progressing, and the parliaments of the two countries can play an effective role in developing relations, said Kiknavelidze.

According to him, the Georgian government has developed plans to further expand cooperation between the two countries.
