Unemployment rate decreases in Georgia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19

The unemployment rate in Georgia decreased by 1.1 percentage point in the third quarter of 2019 compared to the corresponding period of the last year and equaled 11.1 percent, Trend reports referring to Georgian National Statistics Office (Geostat).

In the third quarter of 2019, economically active population constituted 62.5 percent of the working age population (population aged 15 and older).

The economic activity rate decreased by 2.1 percentage point in urban settlements compared to the corresponding period of the last year, and by 1.4 percentage point in rural settlements.

The unemployment rate is much lower in rural settlements compared with the urban settlements. In the third quarter of 2019, the unemployment rate in urban settlements reduced by 1.7 percentage point compared to the corresponding period of 2018, while in rural settlements - by 0.5 percentage point.

The unemployment rate was higher for men than for women. In the third quarter of 2019, the indicator was 1.7 percentage point higher for men compared to the corresponding indicator for women. In addition, the unemployment rate for both women and men decreased by 1.1 percentage point compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The activity rate is higher for men than for women. In the third quarter of 2019, activity rate for women was 54.2 percent and for men - 71.9. The activity rate decreased by 1.9 percentage point for women and by 2 percentage point for men, compared to the corresponding period of 2018.
