Crop production in Azerbaijan amounts to $2B

From January through October 2019, the value of agricultural production in Azerbaijan amounted to about 6.9 billion manat ($4 billion), which is 11.2 percent more than in the same period last year, Trend reports referring to the State Statistics Committee.

During the reporting period, livestock production increased by 6.9 percent (up to 3.3 billion manat, or $1.9 billion), and crop production - by 15.7 percent (up to 3.5 billion manat, or $2 billion).

From January through October 2019, 429,900 tons of meat, 1.7 million tons of milk, 1.5 billion eggs and 15,900 tons of wool were produced in the country. Compared with the same indicators in 2018, meat production increased by 2.9 percent, milk - by 1.8 percent, eggs - by 8.1 percent, and wool - by 1.5 percent.

For the first ten months of this year, 966,500 tons of potatoes were grown (an increase of 9.1 percent) and 1.5 million tons of other vegetables, which is 10.7 percent more compared to the same period last year. During the reporting period, 3.4 million tons of grain and leguminous crops were grown, which is 6.6 percent more than in the same period last year.

In the reporting period, 447,600 tons of melons, which is 11.5 percent more than in the same period of the previous year, and 908,200 tons of fruits and berries (an increase of 12.9 percent) were grown. Furthermore, 190,500 tons of grapes (a 30.2-percent annual growth), 894.3 tons of green tea leaves (a 5.8-percent decrease) and 34,300 tons of sunflower (a 42.3-percent growth) were grown.
