Rice harvest completed in Turkmenistan's Lebap region

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, Nov. 22

By Huseyn Hasanov– Trend:

This year, farmers of Turkmenistan’s Lebap region collected 48,000 tons of rice from 10,000 hectares of paddies, Trend reports referring to the country’s Agriculture Ministry.

This success of the rice growers in the region was possible thanks to comprehensive state support and increased purchase prices.

In mid-November this year, farmers of Turkmenistan's Dashoguz region collected 35,000 tons of rice from 8,100 hectares of paddies.

Preference was given to the high-yielding and disease-resistant rice varieties Nukus-2, Munbashi and Alenga, which are adapted to local soil and climatic conditions.

The harvesting process involved John Deere and Claas combine harvesters.

Rice is rich in carbohydrates and is considered one of the main staple foods in the countries of Central and Southeast Asia.
