By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

If Iran and Afghanistan make efforts in developing trade relations, Iran may increase the export volume to this country, new ambassador of Iran to Afghanistan Bahador Aminian said.

Aminian made the remark at the meeting with chairman of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture Masoud Ansari, Trend reports referring to the Chamber’s website.

“Iran's export volume to Afghanistan reached about $3 billion a year,” the ambassador added.

Aminian added that Iran's participation in Afghanistan’s market should be systematic.

"For example, it is possible to increase the export volume by increasing the export of electricity to Afghanistan and by investing in the construction of railways," the ambassador said.

The Iranian ambassador said that the export of the Iranian products from Afghanistan to other countries amid the US sanctions imposed on Iran is one of the ways to increase the export volume.

Aminian also said that Iranian businessmen may find new markets through Afghanistan.

The ambassador added that making investments in this sphere and boosting the export of medicines to Afghanistan is a necessary step.

While speaking at the meeting, chairman of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture Masoud Ansari said the Tehran Chamber of Commerce still focuses on developing relations with neighbouring countries after the US withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in May 2018.

“There were businessmen operating in the electricity industry in the Tehran Chamber of Commerce and they may invest in export of electricity to Afghanistan,” Ansari added.

"Besides electricity, Iran may export gasoline and CNG to Afghanistan," the chairman said.

Ansari said that such issues as an increase in the number of flights between Iran and Afghanistan and a decrease in ticket prices are on the agenda.

Iran's export volume to Afghanistan amounted to $1.3 billion from March 21 through September 22. Five percent of Iran's total export volume accounts for Afghanistan.
