Russian, Uzbek regions sign agreement on 5-year co-op

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 26

By Fakhri Vakilov - Trend:

The governor of Uzbekistan’s Namangan region Khayrullo Bozarov and the governor of Russian Sverdlovsk region Yevgeny Kuyvashev have signed a 5-year cooperation agreement between the regions covering trade, economic, scientific, technical, humanitarian and other areas, Trend reports citing the Uzbek media.

The agreement, concluded for the next five years, provides for the implementation of new projects in the field of deliveries of agricultural products, fabrics and consumer goods, cooperation in the field of engineering, energy, construction, digital technology and timber processing.

“With regard to agriculture, it is worth noting that the Ural climate is harsh and unpredictable. Therefore, the region has a great need for seasonal vegetables and fresh fruits. We are aimed at creating the most favorable opportunities for expanding the supply of fruits and vegetables from Uzbekistan. Sverdlovsk region developed transport infrastructure and modern logistic schemes which allows us to ensure distribution of Uzbek manufacturers’ products to other Russian regions," said Kuyvashev.

Among the most promising areas of interaction, Kuyvashev also called joint training, education, medicine and construction.

The parties signed a protocol of intent for cooperation in March 2017.

Textile, food, processing, engineering industries, and the production of building materials predominate in industrial production in the Namangan region.

The favorable climate provides an opportunity for the sustainable development of agriculture and the cultivation of cotton, fruits, vegetables, as well as the production of wine and silk.
