Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov held a meeting with Israel’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan Eddie Shapira, Trend reports citing press service of Uzbekistan’s ministry.

The parties touched upon the issue of trade development. It was noted that the level of industrial development in both countries is currently sufficient to significantly increase the trade, and therefore, Export Promotion Agency under Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade and the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute (IEICI) can establish exchange cooperation experience in the development of export activities.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on current bilateral cooperation, considering the prospects for strengthening relations between business circles of Israel and Uzbekistan in this context and intensifying investment and trade and economic partnership.

The priority, at this stage of partnership development, is the active involvement of Israeli experience and technologies in the basic and socially significant sectors of the economy of Uzbekistan, such as agriculture, information and communication technologies, healthcare and education. In this vein, the meeting participants discussed the prospects of opening the Holon Institute of Technology in Tashkent in order to train specialists in the areas of engineering mathematics and computer technology.

Following the meeting, an initiative to hold the first meeting of the Uzbek-Israeli intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, investment, scientific and technical cooperation, as an important step towards systematizing and increasing the effectiveness of economic cooperation between the two countries, was put forward and discussed.
