The funds worth 65 trillion rials (approximately $1.54 billion) will be allocated for using two kinds of fuel by 1.4 million pickup trucks, taxis, van and other passenger vehicles, Alireza Sadeqabadi, Deputy Oil Minister and Executive Director of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, said.
“The representatives of the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum and the Plan and Budget Organization have approved the draft project in this regard,” Sadeqabadi added, Trend reports referring to Tasnim News Agency.
The deputy oil minister added that this step is aimed to reduce the public transport costs and to improve the environmental situation in cities.
"In accordance with the project, the government will pay the funds to the companies or individuals for public transport and private passenger vehicles to use compressed natural gas," Sadeqabadi said.
The deputy oil minister said that the funds will be provided through the income obtained via the gasoline quota.
The price of gasoline sold within quotas in Iran rose by 10,000 rials (23 cent) to 15,000 rials (35 cent) per liter and the price of freely sold gasoline grew to 30,000 rials (71 cent) per liter.
After an increase in gasoline prices in Iran, a number of vehicle owners have asked for the conditions to be created for using bi-fuel vehicles.
